- Additional Information
- The CD opens with the backing tape of Somebody Up There Likes You, before launching into
King Is White And In The Crowd. The recording is well balanced and clear. "Hello, good
to see you. This is called Glittering Prize". A great version, now with Derek's bass upfront in the mix.
- Jim's announcement of "For this next song, we go back in time - travel through the world - this is called I Travel" is
followed by a storming version of this classic. It's followed by another Empires And Dance cut, the driving
Celebrate - and the bad put in another energetic, extended performance.
- "Across to the big country - this is called The American." This introduction preceeds one of
the best live versions of this song - the band are definitely on top form tonight.
- "A tale of living in temptation - this is called Hunter And The Hunted. Whilst the quality of
the recording is excellent, this version does seem to drag, lacking some energy. Charlie fumbles the first
notes of the intro of Someone Somewhere In Summertime, but, again, this version lacks energy.
One notable difference is an alternate rhythm used by Mel during the middle of the song.
- The energy and tempo are upped for Promised You A Miracle with Derek launcing into it before
the rest of the band. Apart from a longer, almost quieter, ending the song is performed in its normal guise. Mick
gets to start Big Sleep, etherial and solid, which gradually slows to its finish.
- This is interrupted by a percussive upturn in tempo by Mel, Jim stating that some people have no choice, and
the band slip into Premonition. Extra lyrics and a storming performance make this extended version
a highlight of the gig.
- A different version of King Is White And In The Crowd finishes this CD - this must be taken
from a different source (and includes the "Take No Prisoner" extra lyric) but the quality stil remains very high - it's impossible to determine the
recordings appart.
- The sleeve suggests two concert sources, but the quality of both the recordings is very high, and it's
very difficult, if not impossible, to tell the two sources apart.
- Interestingly the New Gold Dream tracks seem washy and indeterminate - it's the earlier
Real To Real Cacophony and Empires And Dance songs that have bite at this gig.
- The bootleggers have, unfortunately, made an error with the CD indexing. Track 8, which should start at
the beginning of Promised You A Miracle, starts during the intro of Someone Somewhere (In Summertime). Therefore,
it's impossible to jump directly to the start of Promised You A Miracle. Despite that, the CD is highly
recommended.
