- Additional Information
- This bootleg steals the Paradisco Club show again, but offers more value than either of the previous two
bootlegs of this concert, since it features part of an early 1982 show as well. Unfortunately the source of the second
recording isn't specified, but it's thought to be Utrecht from the 16th June, 1982.
- The second half the CD, and the second concert, kicks off with electro chop of I Travel (with
Jim's "See the city for yourself" intro). Other lyric changes also include the substitution of "Airports
playing 'Bi Some Lo'" with "Gimme some fire, fire, FIRE" and the song closing
on "Euro-Bureau-Interpol. Making love to the criminals". The mix is good with Derek at the forefront,
the keyboards crisp and Charlie's guitar work well in evidence.
- "Thank you - and now Celebrate." Jim plays with the lyrics during the second verse, whilst
Mick adds extra keyboard effects and sonics. A great rendition and clearly recorded but it ends abruptly with
Jim hanging on a "Run" lyric. "One man and his problems. This is called 'Thirty Frames
A Second'." Like I Travel, Derek is lead in the mix. Jim sings additional lyrics during
"What are you doing coming back Jack?" verse (which appears much earlier in the song as it was
swapped with the fourth verse.)
- Barely has the song finished, than the percussive intro to Premonition starts.
"Some people have no choice" Jim announces enigmatically, introducing a solid performance with extra
guitar work from Charlie. "Sweat In Bullet" raises the tempo dramtically, leaving the plodding,
mechanical Real To Real Cacophony and Empires And Dance work behind. Mick's keyboards
now have the warm New Gold Dream sound, as the song rushes along.
- "And now... two new songs. And the first one is called 'Promised You A Miracle'". Again,
it's like a different band, with the warmth and mutli-layered texture of the New Gold Dream era
songs becomes apparent. Both Promised You A Miracle and King Is White And In The Crowd
appear in their standard, live versions. (Although Jim adds the lyric "Take no prisoner" to the
end of King Is White And In The Crowd).
- A weird combination: Life In A Day title, Street Fighting Years
photo and Real Life font. This package then features two concert recordings from the Real To Real Cacophony
and Sons And Fascination tour. To add to the general confusion, the date of the recording on the
sleeve, 28th December 1980, is also incorrect.
The first half of the CD is an inferior copy of Live Adventures - there's extra hiss and hum, so
it loses on the quality. There's also hiss and him on the later recording (particularly during the inter-song
announcements) but, during the songs, it's clear and well mixed.
Depite the hum and hiss, this CD is recommended.
