- Additional Information
- The CD fades up (badly) into the etherial intro of King Is White And In The Crowd. The recording
loses volume and balance intermittently at the start, and continues to fluctuate during the song. Mick's synths
are too high in the mix and tend to drown out the rest of the band. Finally the end of the song features just the
drumming and Jim singing "Lost in the crowd".
- "Hello! To the cities and the buildings and the people of Europe, this is called I Travel". The
recording is now much clearer and all the members of the band can now be heard. Apart from Jim sounding
like he's in an echo chamber, and regular loss of tone, plus the occasional crackle, it's not a bad version of
the song.
- "Hello to you in Washington. This is Glittering Prize" After a standard run through, Jim announces that
the band will be going back in time. The warmth of New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) is lost by the cold, rhythmic
thud of Celebrate. During the latter parts of the song, Ogletree opens up with a faster, running tempo,
whilst Charlie is adding the foundations for the riffs and chords that can be heard on the Glasgow 1985 version
of the song.
- "A song from across the big blue ocean. This is called The American". The extended version seems
to go down well with the audience, despite the nature of the lyrics! "This year - to a song of jealously.
This is called Colours Fly And Catherine Wheel". Derek can be heard well in the mix, plus Jim sings
new lyrics during the last extended parts of the song: "You said you could never cry - but on a night like this, anything can happen!".
- "A story of temptation. This is called Hunter And The Hunted". A run through the album
cut suffers from distored vocals. "A story of ambition and belief - this is called "Promised You A Miracle"
" also suffers the same fate, but, for some unknown reason, is also faded out!
- After a long pause, Charlie's opening riff from Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) can be
heard but, again, the volume is patchy and the balance is off, thus spoiling the start of the song. The bad
balance continues into the intro of Big Sleep, but quickly settles down. Big Sleep
features an extended ending, with MacNeil's synths driving a drawn-out closure.
- After a pause, with much screaming and shouting from the crowd, Derek thanks the crowd and introduces
New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84). This supercharged version features some extra lyrics ("And
the cities take - and that's OK!") and a super-long ending with Derek and Jim alternating the vocals.
Derek thanks the crowd after the finalé of the song, as the intro of Love Song starts. The
end of the song, and the CD, finishes with Jim singing When I See The Glory by
Television over the final verses of Love Song.
- An early concert from the New Gold Dream tour, the set-list features most of the new album. The
volume and balance has problems throughout the recording, suggesting that the source is a badly chewed cassette
tape. This is unfortunate, because the band were clear and well mixed - but the continual drop outs, and loss
of tone really distract.
This recording is definitely not "perfect reception".
