Additional Information
All the CD bootlegs from the Once Upon A Time era ignore the existing LP bootlegs, and all seize the same Westwood One broadcast of the famous Rotterdam concert. Repackaging, and altering the song order, are some of the ways in which the bootleggers have attempted to pass these four bootlegs off as different shows. The message is simple: if you want this gig, you only need to buy one. And it's this bootleg that offers the best value.
Jim's introduces Once Upon A Time, a slow majestic version featuring the extra bridge and extra percussion that became standard during the rest of the shows. This has to be one of the longest ever versions of this song. All The Things She Said also gets the slow, majestic, extended treatment, incorporating a rare John Giblin solo, but the song sounds hesitant and unsure of itself (with Jim missing a cue at one point).

"Is everyone still OK? Oh..." at which point Jim sounds genuinely upset about something " this is Alive And Kicking." A minimal version, which features the bass and percussion heavily during the first verse and chorus. Sanctify Yourself picks up the tempo and rouslingly rounds of the main part of part of the concert (an indication to those unfamiliar with the original recording that the order has been played around with.)

Ghostdancing slows the preceedings again, which introduces the regal Book Of Brilliant Things. And the following version of Don't You (Forget About Me) should be familiar to every Minds fan having appeared on the B-side of All The Things She Said.

The recording of I Travel is very different: it lacks the mix and power of the later era Minds, and echo is present during Jim's muffled introduction to the song. However the recording is clear and captures the concert perfectly, if not suffering from some claustraphobia. A perfect lifting of the Arista recording from the vinyl, which can also be said of Up On The Catwalk which is available from the Alive And Kicking limited edition and/or the Summertime In Glasgow series of bootlegs.

Swapping the song order is one way the bootleggers have disguised the provenance of this recording (but they've only tacked the first two songs on at the end.) But the addition of I Travel and Up On The Catwalk are nice touches - if you don't already have the original 12"s that featured these recordings. And finally, the Tears For Fears tracks add some seasoning, but are hardly essential.

Tears For Fears were not the support act (as indicated on the sleeve), but were also featured on the same Westwood One broadcast. But the booleggers weren't shy of sharing the source of these recordings - it has to be the most honest title of a bootleg ever.

Highly recommended.
