This bootleg is the second half of the so-called Summertime In Glasgow bootleg. Strangely the quality seems slightly superior on this pressing than the various versions of Summertime In Glasgow

"This is called Celebrate" announces Jim before Mick's piano creates the relaxed intro into this Empires And Dance classic. The arrangement is different to the previous 'techo' style performances. An edited version (which cuts the middle verse and chops the ending) can be found on the flip of the 12" of Promised You A Miracle Live.

A piano intro is also used for Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) (not Charlie's usual guitar piece.) Whilst Celebrate benefitted from less of a rush, Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) sounds slow and laboured. Despite the new intro, the rest of the song is familiar.

"All right. Once again, from far across the water. This is called ... THE AMERICAN" String effects, from Charlie now soar over the audience, as this unique version of The American is performed. Derek's bass balances, until the band return to the familiar chords of the song. Jim cues Charlie incorrectly for the guitar solo, having to correct later: "THIS TIME... lead guitar!". Then after Charlie's ending solo, the eerie, soaring instrumental appears again. "A town called GLASGOW" shouts Jim.

Then more surprises. Mick starts a cycling piano riff over which Jim starts a chant: "Ameri-Ameri-Ameri- American to which the crowd have already started chanting. Then the band build again and break into the chorus of "The American" again. A great piano piece brings the song to its gradual end. This has to be one of the best arrangements of this classic.

"A year and a half ago, we wrote this song in Glasgow. We took this song around the world and we found that this song is big enough to fill any stadium around the world. This is WATERFRONT." Whilst the bass and synths play the same opening, Charlie's found a new riff to complement the opening. "Get in, get out of the rain" sings Jim before the song starts proper. The rest of the song is as previous live versions, except as it appears to end, Jim sings "Get in, get out of the rain" and introduces the rest of the band:

"Let me introduce you to probably the best young drummer in the world Mr Mel Gaynor. And on keyboards, the quiet man, the man in the sky, a genius called Michael Josepth MacNeil. We say thank you, thanks for queuing up all night for tickets. We think its bands like us should be queuing up all night for audiences like you." And before the crowd go wild, Jim steers them back into the song "SING IT! Come in, come out of the rain..

"Alright! As I said last night, we didn't rehearse this song because we weren't sure we'd do it again. We can't resist. This is for every one of you and the future. It's called New Gold Dream. Come here - I want you. LET'S GO!"

The band hadn't rehearsed New Gold Dream, and so it appeared in it's 1984 guise. However, Jim made one lyrical change, and that was to sing the years as "82-83-84-85" And then, after the main part of the song had finished, Jim made an annoucement:

"You know, tonight, we're gonna make some history. Two reasons. Because there's a mobile recording studio out there and because you're in here. And the other reason is we've been having some talks with each other recently. And we were thinking of, you know, splitting up. [Crowd in utter dismay at this point] But we thought, no - fuck it. [Cheers] It's all right, I'm only kidding. [More cheers] But what we did decide is tonight we'd make history, we gonna have two vocalists. Ladies and gentlemen, from Dublin, BONO." [Crowd lose it].

Bono sings the next verse of New Gold Dream (and sings 81-82-83-84 so he missed the new year sequence.) Then both vocalists take turns in finishing New Gold Dream and singing Take Me To The River and Light My Fire. The crowd, rightly, go nuts.

"Anything is possible" cried out Bono. "I will follow" returned Jim before New Gold Dream returns and the concert closes on a high.

"It's always summertime in Glasgow" - Jim.
A suprising bootleg. Considering its minimal packaging and appeal, it's cleanly recorded with minimal crowd noise. But it seems to been produced in very limited quantities. Recommended, but finding a copy may be impossible.
