It also features exclusive tracks that have not been featured elsewhere.
Touch TapeKing Is White And In The Crowd (5.54) [Instrumental] The eclectic and eccentric Touch Tape magazine appeared during the early eighties. Taking a magazine, of differing formats, packed with art, poems and discussion, and pairing it with a cassette of further poems and unreleased tracks donated by bands, the Touch Tapes have become very collectable. Simple Minds donated an instrumental version of King Is White And In The Crowd, augmented with brief snatches of an interview with Touch's Garry Mouat. Nothing about the band appears in the associated magazine. Bootleggers included this instrumental on the All Kings Are White double LP.

1 And Only: 25 Years Of Radio OneBand Of Joy BOJCD 25 New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84)-Take Me To The River (5.01) [Session] The BBC Radio One session has allowed bands to showcase their abilities over the airwaves, by playing a live selection of tracks in the studio. Simple Minds were often showcased in the early eighties, and many exclusive performances of the band playing their earliest material were broadcast. (For example, Room was written exclusively for a Radio One session.) Simple Minds have only released one session recording (a dry and flat version of King Is White And In The Crowd on the flip of Someone Somewhere (In Summertime)). Whilst other bands have released their session recordings on the specialist labels (John Peel Sessions and Strange Fruit), Simple Minds and others have refused permission. To celebrate 25 years of Radio One, this double CD (released in 1992) collected together artists who've not released their sessions. The track chosen for Simple Minds was a fast-and-furious rush through New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) from their session in 1983 (which also debuted Waterfront to the nation.)

Duos Taratata Volume 2Virgin 7243 8 4247829 She Moved Through The Fair (5.30) [Live] In 1995, as part of the promotion surrounding the Good News From The Next World tour, Simple Minds appeared on the French TV show Taratata. The show's format revolved around an interview with a featured artist, live performances, and collaborations and duets between the show's guests. Simple Minds' set included Alive And Kicking, Hypnotised and Don't You (Forget About Me). Of more interest were the duets: a rough-and-furious tumble through White Light-White Heat with Arno and a powerful performance of She Moved Through The Fair with Alan Stivell on harp. Definitely the hightlight of the show. This CD was released in France in 1996 and includes Simple Minds' version of the folk song (mistakenly called Belfast Child on the sleeve.) It remains the only time that Simple Minds have performed the song that inspired Belfast Child. The show was bootlegged and appears on the excellent Don't Forget Paris CD which also appeared in 1996. Whilst the bootleg includes She Moved Through The Fair, it features the broadcast version, whilst Duos Taratata features the full, unedited studio cut.

Night Of The Proms '97EVA 7243 823027 2 Belfast Child (7.49) [Orchestral] East At Easter - Don't You (Forget About Me) (7.40) [Orchestral] Late 1997 found Jim and Charlie performing at The Proms in a series of gigs across mainland Europe. Combining classical music with rock and pop, the concerts featured a full orchestra playing classical pieces and standing in as backing for a variety of musicians. This CD gives a taste of the shows. Strauss and Rachmaninov rub shoulders with Gershwin, and contemporary musicians Alan Parsons, Debbie Harry and Simple Minds. Two songs from the Minds appear here. Belfast Child and Don't You (Forget About Me) feature Jim, Charlie and the full orchestra. The arrangement of Don't You (Forget About Me) is even introduced with a short instrumental refrain from East At Easter.
